This Privacy Policy explains what information is collected in connection with the VFR Pilot Garmin Connect IQ watch face ("the watch face") and the associated payment page, and how that information is used.
1. Who We Are
DIGITXLAB S.R.L. ("we," "us," "our") is the developer of the watch face, based in Romania. For the purposes of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), we are the data controller for the limited personal data described below.
We are committed to collecting as little personal data as possible. Most functionality of the watch face works without us receiving any personally identifiable information. The watch face is designed to function primarily on your Garmin device and does not require account creation with us, GPS tracking, or collection of health or fitness information.
2. Information Processed by the watch face
a) Information Stored Locally on Your Device
The following information is stored locally on your Garmin device and is not transmitted to us:
- Your selected airport (ICAO code)
- Coordinates used to retrieve weather and sunrise/sunset information
- Your watch face settings and preferences
The ICAO code and coordinates are used solely to display weather, sunrise/sunset, and density altitude within the watch face. This does not include your device's own location, which is handled separately — see (g) Nearest Airport Lookup below.
b) Payment and Billing Information
Purchases are processed entirely by Paddle.com Market Limited, our payment provider and merchant of record. We do not collect, receive, or store your payment card details.
Paddle collects billing information (such as your name, email address, country, and payment method) to process your purchase, issue receipts, calculate taxes, and help prevent fraud under its own Privacy Policy.
c) Email Address (Optional)
If you choose to subscribe to product news and updates after your purchase, we collect your email address for that purpose only. Subscription is entirely optional, and you may unsubscribe at any time.
d) Store Statistics (via Garmin)
Garmin Connect IQ provides developers with aggregate, anonymized statistics, such as download counts and device model distribution.
We do not have access to your Garmin account, GPS location, health or fitness data, or other personal information held by Garmin. Garmin's handling of your information is governed by its own Privacy Policy.
e) License Validation
To verify your purchase and unlock premium features after the trial, the watch face sends a technical device identifier (deviceId) to our backend.
We use this identifier solely to determine whether your device has a valid license and to return the corresponding license status (for example, trial or paid).
We do not use this identifier to identify you personally, build a user profile, track your activity, or collect information about your location, flights, or Garmin account.
f) Website Analytics
Our website uses Umami, a privacy-focused analytics tool, to understand aggregate site usage — such as page views, referrers, browser and device type, and approximate country. Umami does not use cookies, does not build personal profiles, and does not track you across other websites.
This information is aggregated and cannot reasonably be used to identify you. We use it solely to measure and improve our website.
g) Nearest Airport Lookup
If you select "Nearest Airport" as your location setting, the watch face sends your device's approximate coordinates (latitude and longitude) to our backend, which uses them to calculate the closest airport with weather reporting and returns its identifier.
These coordinates are processed only to generate that response. We do not collect, store, log, or otherwise retain them, and we never associate them with you, your device, or any account or identifier.
3. Information We DO NOT Collect
- Your selected airport (ICAO code)
- Coordinates used for weather or sunrise/sunset requests
- Health or fitness data
- Flight history
- Garmin account credentials
- Payment card details
- Contacts, photos, microphone, or other personal content from your device
4. Third-Party Data Sources
To provide aviation information, the watch face communicates directly with the following third-party services:
- AviationWeather.gov (NOAA / National Weather Service) — provides METAR weather data.
- Sunrise-Sunset.org — provides sunrise and sunset times.
Requests to these services are made directly from your Garmin device (typically via the Garmin Connect Mobile app on your paired phone). We do not proxy, receive, or store these requests.
These providers may process technical information such as your network IP address as part of providing their services. Their collection and processing of data are governed by their own privacy policies and terms, and we are not responsible for their privacy practices.
5. Why We Process Data
- Verify your license and unlock premium features.
- Process your purchase through Paddle.
- Send optional product news and updates (only if you subscribe).
- Measure aggregate website usage through privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics.
- Maintain, secure, and improve the watch face.
- Comply with applicable legal, accounting, and tax obligations.
6. Legal Basis (GDPR)
- Contract — providing the watch face, validating your license, and processing purchases.
- Consent — sending optional product news and updates.
- Legitimate Interests — preventing fraud, protecting our services, measuring aggregate website usage, and maintaining the reliability and security of the watch face.
7. Data Retention
We retain purchase and license records for as long as necessary to provide and support your lifetime license and to comply with applicable accounting, tax, and legal retention requirements.
If you subscribe to product news and updates, we retain your email address until you unsubscribe or request its deletion.
8. International Transfers
Paddle and certain third-party data providers used by the watch face may process information outside Romania, including within the United Kingdom, the European Union, and the United States.
Where we transfer personal data internationally, we use appropriate safeguards where required by applicable law. Third-party providers process data under their own privacy policies and legal frameworks.
9. Your Rights (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Request correction or deletion of your personal data.
- Restrict or object to certain processing.
- Request a copy of your personal data (data portability).
- Withdraw your consent at any time where processing is based on consent.
- Lodge a complaint with the Romanian National Supervisory Authority for Personal Data Processing (ANSPDCP).
To exercise your rights, please contact us at support@digitxlab.com.
10. Children
The watch face is not directed to children and is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 16.
11. Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures designed to protect the limited information we process.
No method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
12. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.
Where required by applicable law, we will provide notice of material changes before they take effect. The latest version of this Privacy Policy will always be available on this page together with its Effective Date.
